Undergraduate student

Senior high graduate with good records

Humanities and social sciences: HSK exam score above Band VI; disciplines: HSK exam score above Band IV

Graduate student

Equal to a Chinese BA or BS. Graduated from our University or a Chinese college with good records & recommended by 2 professors or 2 associate professors

HSK exam score above Band VI; Written exam on a major subject or interview

Ph.D candidate

Equal to a Chinese MA or MS, recommended by 2 professors

HSK exam score above Band VI; Written exam on a major subject or interview

Student for advanced studies

College freshman or above

None

Senior student for advanced studies

Equal to a Chinese MA or MS, or qualified for Ph. D studies, studying on a specific project under the tutor

None

Visiting scholar

Associate professor or above, or equal to a Ph. D, intending to do research in a specific field

None

Language student

Senior high or above

HSK (Hanyu Shuiping Kaoshi): Chinese Level Exam

Application & Admission
     The applicants shall write to the International Affaires Office of Southwest Jiaotong University for the "Application Form for Foreigners Wishing to Study in China at SWJTU" and the "Physical Examination Record for Foreigners" (or download them from http://fad.swjtu.edu.cn/) which shall be completed and then mailed or E-mailed back to the university. The university will send the qualified applicants a Visa Application Form (JW 202 Form ) and SWJTU Admission Notice. The applicants shall apply for the student (X) visa by presenting these two documents at the Chinese embassy or consulate.
      A. The following documents shall be provided by undergraduate students:
     1.Application Form for Foreigners Wishing to Study in China at SWJTU ( photocopy )
     2.Certificate of the highest academic degree earned (photocopy)
     3.Physical Examination Record for Foreigners (photocopy)
     4.HSK exam record (original)
     B. The following documents shall be provided by students working for their master's or doctor's degree:
     1. Application Form for Foreigners Wishing to Study in China at SWJTU ( photocopy )
     2. Certificate of the highest academic degree earned (photocopy)
     3. Physical Examination Record for Foreigners (photocopy)
     4.Transcripts of the academic records of the highest degree earned (original)
     5.HSK exam record (original )
     6.Recommendation letters from two professors (original)
     C. The following documents shall be provided by general and senior students for advanced studies:
     1. Application Form for Foreigners Wishing to Study in China at SWJTU ( photocopy )
     2.Certificate of the highest academic degree earned (photocopy)

     D. The following documents shall be provided by visiting scholars:

Accommodation
     SWJTU has a stable study environment and a Chinese-speaking environment as well as first-class establishments and conditions. The university is organized, well-managed, and has systemic and perfect managing measures and responsible administrators. The university offers all sorts of large, middle and small-sized classrooms for class study and self-study.
     There are three types of accommodations for students:
     A. Dorms on campus possess an air conditioner, color TV, fridge, furniture, telephone and toilet. A double room is 500 RMB yuan / person/ month; single room is 1000RMB yuan / person/ month.
     B. A 54 square meters' suite on campus possesses furniture, telephone and toilet, and can be inhabited by one or two persons. The rent is 700 to 900 RMB yuan /suite /month.
     C. There is a residential area about 500 meters away from the campus with an elegant environment. It is very secure and is very well managed. It offers suites of 60 to 150 square meters. The rent is about 800 to 2,000 RMB yuan /suite /month. Students can rent different types of suites according to their own needs。
